MICRO-
NEEDLING
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling involves a handheld pen-like device equipped with sterile, ultra-fine needles. It creates controlled micro-injuries (tiny channels) in the skin at adjustable depths. These micro-wounds trigger the body’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
This process helps improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin. It is safe for most skin types, requires little to no downtime, and works without heat or chemicals by harnessing your skin’s own regenerative abilities.
At Reve Medical Aesthetics, we use a couple different modalities to achieve this effect including the SkinPen® as well as the MDPen®. Both devices are FDA approved for medical-depth microneedling, which is different than what you can get with a traditional beauty salon as it targets deeper in the dermis to achieve more natural, longer-lasting results.
-
The cost for microneedling depends on the number of areas that are treated. Our prices start as low as $300 and progress upward according to the number of treatment areas.
-
The process of building collagen in the skin can take between 1-2 months following your last treatment. Initial collagen production begins within days, with peak collagen production occurring around 2-4 weeks post treatment. Visible, optimal results from new collagen are usually seen at 4–6 weeks after treatment.
-
There is some downtime with microneedling. Most importantly, the first 24-48 hours, you will need social downtime due to visible redness. During this period, patients are asked to avoid putting anything on their face, including makeup and sunscreen. Complete skin healing occurs generally within 5-7 days post-treatment, with some milk flaking and dryness that can linger past this time period.
-
Following microneedling, proper aftercare is essential to support healing, minimize irritation, and optimize collagen production. For the first 24 hours, avoid applying any products to the skin, including makeup, sunscreen, or skincare items, and keep the treated area clean and untouched. Gently cleanse with cool water only (or a very mild cleanser after the initial 24 hours), pat dry, and apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer as recommended by your provider. Strictly avoid sun exposure, strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, and active skincare ingredients (such as retinoids, acids, or exfoliants) for at least 3–7 days. Use a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen daily after the first 24 hours without active pinpoint bleeding, wear protective clothing or a hat, and stay hydrated. Mild redness, tightness, and flaking are normal and typically resolve within 2–5 days.

Healthy adults who want to improve the appearance of their skin through natural collagen stimulation. This treatment is safe for all skin types! Ideal candidates would be those looking to improve acne scarring, surgical scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, crepey skin, or dull skin.
Is Microneedling Painful?
The procedure is generally well-tolerated and most of our patients report just a tickling sensation to the upper face. A very potent topical numbing cream is applied before your treatment, so most patients feel only mild pressure or a prickling sensation. Discomfort is usually minimal and much less than traditional deeper needling or laser treatments.Typically, we see that the nose is the most uncomfortable spot to mirconeedle as it gives patients the feeling of needing to sneeze. However, pain is very well managed at Reve Medical Aesthetics due to our customized numbing protocol.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results can last 6–12 months or longer with proper skincare and sun protection (this part is very important in Sierra Vista’s sunny desert climate). Collagen production continues for 3-6 months after your last treatment. Many people schedule maintenance sessions once or twice a year to preserve and enhance their result as the aging process continues. Many of our clients also schedule for preventative sessions to preserve the collagen before it becomes problematic.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Microneedling is very versatile and can treat the face, neck, chest (décolleté), hands, arms, legs, and abdomen. It is commonly used for facial concerns but is also excellent for stretch marks on the body and surgical scaring. Our patient love the results from microneedling particularly with stretch marks after pregnancy! It is one of our most popular treatments as it is highly effective, allowing our patients to be bikini-ready after a few treatments.
Is Microneedling Safe In Arizona’s Climate?
Yes — SkinPen® and MDPen® microneedling is FDA-cleared and safe for all skin types and tones (Fitzpatrick I–VI). It is often preferred over lasers in sunny areas like Sierra Vista because it has lower risk of hyperpigmentation. However, strict sun avoidance and sunscreen use after treatment are essential due to the intense desert sun.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Common side effects are mild and temporary: redness, swelling, and sensitivity (like a sunburn) for 24–48 hours, with possible light flaking for a few days. Serious risks are rare when performed by trained professionals, like we are at Reve Medical Aesthetics. Infection, scarring, or prolonged pigmentation changes are uncommon but can be minimized by following aftercare instructions and choosing the reputable providers here at Reve! We pride ourselves on keeping staff well-educated and informed on new research and technology updates so that we make sure you love your results and continue to have the safest treatments!
